Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center

218th Basic Training Session

Neb. Rev. §81-1414 (6)(g) established a 16 week limit on employment as a noncertified conditional officer. The Police Standards Advisory Council has the ability to hear a request for an extension of this mandate. The extension, if granted, cannot exceed 16 additional weeks.

To be eligible to request such an extension, the following requirements must be met. The change in status form must be submitted within 7 days of the hiring (it may be submitted before actual appointment); immediately apply for admission to the next basic training session; and/or the Training Center denied the applicant’s admission based on class size limitations.

This hiring timeline does not apply to an individual hired as a Trainee. However, a Trainee cannot work as a law enforcement officer until they have completed certification training.

All application packets must be complete and submitted within 21 days of hiring and or appointment. Failure to submit completed packets within the time frame may result in denial of admission for the applicant.

In order to be in compliance with §81-1414 (6)(g), an applicant should not be appointed as a noncertified conditional officer prior to 16 weeks before the end date of the course.
