NLETC reserves the right to limit the number of attendees from any one agency. This is to provide equitable training throughout the state.

The ARIDE training is designed to bridge the gap between SFST (Standardized Field Sobriety Testing) and DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) by providing more information to law enforcement officers regarding drug impaired driving. This does not replace DRE training, nor does it qualify the particpants as DREs. This 16-hour course designed for Nebraska Law Enforcement Officers focuses on recognizing drug impaired drivers. One major focus of this course is on the examination of a drug impaired suspect's eyes. The procedures for those eye examinations derive largely from HGN procedures. This is an intermediated level course designed to offer more than a basic understanding of the impairing effects of drugs (illicit and licit), alcohol, and/or the combination of both.

Officer selected to attend this training should bwe aware of the hazards caused by impaired drivers, motivated to arrest impaired drivers, and their duty assignments will enable them to spend time required to process DWI offenders. Officers applying to attend should be familiar with the extent of the drug impaired driving problem.

The officer must be able to administer and interpret the horizontal gaze nystagmus (HGN) test for alcohol-impaired suspects. The student must be fully conversant with the procedural "mechanics" of HGN with the three clues of HGN and with the interpretation of those clues for assessing alcohol impairment. The officer attending must also be able to pass an SFST proficiency test at the beginning of the course.

Students are responsible for lodging ($25.00 per night double occupancy) and meals.
